FOX had a busy day at the Television Critics Association Winter press tour, announcing an early renewal, an extension for a new comedy and two big summer reality projects with big-name hosts.
It should come as no surprise that FOX has renewed its top-rated hit drama Empire for a fourth season. The show is currently on a hiatus, but will return Wednesday, March 22 at 9/8c.
FOX also showed a vote of confidence in its new sitcom The Mick, ordering four additional episodes for its current first season, bringing the total to 17. The series will get another special Sunday night bump on January 15 at 9/8c following an hour-long new episode of The Simpsons, while also continuing to air in its regular time slot, Tuesdays at 8:30/7:30c.
The network also announced new details on two big summer reality projects. Beat Shazam, a modern reboot of Beat the Clock in which contestants try to identify hit songs as quickly as possible, will be hosted by Oscar winner Jamie Foxx. FOX will also air a revival of the Chuck Woolery classic dating game Love Connection, this one hosted by Bravo’s Andy Cohen.
