Deepika Padukone is going to have one of the best years of her career in 2017, mark my words. The Piku actress, who celebrates her 31st birthday today, is a very busy lady as she will be busy promoting her Hollywood debut, xXx: Return of Xander Cage. Fans of Deepika Padukone would have been very disappointed that she gave 2016 a complete miss when it comes to her movies. She was busy shooting for her Hollywood movie, where she is cast opposite action hero Vin Diesel. However, this year will be a special treat for her fans as not only her Hollywood movie is coming out later this month, she will also be appearing as the title character in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama, Padmavati, that also stars her real life beau Ranveer Singh, as well as Shahid Kapoor.
Now Deepika Padukone is an actress who has managed to reach the top through her sheer hard work and determination. Though she was always considered one of the prettiest actresses around ever since she made her debut in Shah Rukh Khan’s Om Shanti Om, as an actress she came as her own with a spunky performance in Cocktail. Frome thereon, she has been delivering consistently great performances in movies like Chennai Express, Finding Fanny, Happy New Year, Piku and her last movie, Bajirao Mastani.
On her birthday, we make a wishlist of 5 Hollywood movies that we want the film-makers to remake with her in the lead, so that her acting ability is sufficiently challenged. Here are they…
Natalie Portman won her first and only Academy Award for her role of a ballet dancer who goes on a psychologically mind-f**k trip when she is in the process of being replaced by a younger ballerina. The trauma that her character goes through in the movie is said to epitomise depression, something Deepika Padukone had valiantly fought against in real life. Hence we can’t think of anyone else to play this role, especially considering Deepika has the acting chops and the nimble feel to pull it off.
The two-part Quentin Tarantino action-packed revenge drama has Uma Thurman’s The Bride go on a vendetta spree against the people who left her for dead at her wedding altar. Filled with some amazingly choreographed action sequences, great BG score and nice twists, Kill Bill series is one of the best women-oriented action movies Hollywood has given us. Deepika Padukone’s done only a couple of action oriented roles in movies like Chandni Chowk to China and the upcoming xXx: Return of Xander Cage, so this role might give her more scope to use those lovely legs to kick some real ass.
Silver Linings Playbook
If you want to make a hatke love story with Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, look no further than this David O Russell. The talented Jennifer Lawrence won her first Academy Award for this one, where she and Bradley Cooper play schizophrenic patients who decide to take dancing lessons together to overcome their inability to adjust with normal life. Going by Deepika’s acting chops and her chemistry with Ranveer, this would really be a bitter sweet fun ride if someone ever thought of remaking this movie.
Now time for some classic romance. Bollywood has always played with the notion of remaking this Hugh Grant-Julia Roberts romcom, with Shah Rukh Khan himself admitting in one of his older interviews that he himself has been offered the remake many a times. Now that it has never happened why can’t we have him play a small town bookseller whose life takes for a turn when a popular actress enters his shop to buy a book? And who better than Deepika to take on that role of a diva who just wants to lead a normal life with the man who loves her more than her starry image?
Hush has been claimed as one of the best horror-thrillers made in 2016. It is about a deaf-mute author who finds herself trapped in her house with a faceless serial killer out to kill her. Though Bollywood rarely makes a good horror thriller, Hush is a great movie to change that aspect, as the movie relies on less dialogues and more scare moments. Why Deepika? Because the whole movie revolves around the potential female victim, whose fear needs to be experienced by the audience as well. So we do need a really good actress to play this role in the remake as well.
We wish Deepika Padukone Many Many Happy Returns of the Day!
