Dhanush, Tamannaah, Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth – The dare devils of 2017

2017 is here! The number of movies to hit the theatres this year is seen to be believed. Right from thrillers to cop actioners to modern age romances to tragedies to planned robberies – there is a movie for everyone. But bigger than these movies are the actors who are turning dare devils this year. They are truly experimenting, taking on a challenging role and putting themselves out there. Anybody can do a conventional role in a conventional film and create a blockbuster. the real heroes are those who are are erady to get out of their comfort zone. Whether it works out or not, their guts is appreciable, don’t you think? Here’s looking at the risk takers of 2017 down South:

Rajinikanth – To be part of the most expensive film is a risk alright. Rajinikanth will be seen in 2.0 directed by Shankar. This sci-fi film is made on a budget of Rs 400 crores. Everything about this film is grand, starting with the First look launch in Mumbai.  The movie is a spiritual successor of Enthiran- The robot, which means, certain elements might repeat itself but the story is brand new. Rajinikanth makes a comeback as Chitti, Dr Vaseegaran and reportedly an undisclosed villain character. While the producers are stating that fans can expect high quality, international standard sequences, what’s bit of a concern is the exorbitant budget. Will the film be able to recover its cost? However considering, we also have Bollywood Biggie – Akshay Kumar on board, the movie has the potential to be distributed across wider markets. But time will tell if this movie will break records. Also, with respect to Rajinikanth’s character, he has already played Chitti and Dr Vaseegaran before so the novelty factor is lacking. What will he bring new to the table this time? Wondering if that undisclosed third character will spring the perfect surprise and blow us away.

Kamal Haasan – After a dreadful injury that caused him his 34th fracture last year, Kamal Haasan is back! He will resume shooting and directing the much-talked about Sabash Naidu in Hyderabad in the third week of January. Now Sabash Naidu is a spin off of one of his characters Balram Naidu from Dasavathaaram that released in 2008. While this film that showcased Kamal Haasan’s versatality was a hit, is it wise to make an entire film on just one of his characters? And now that the project has forseen too long a delay, has the excitement fizzled out among fans to see Sabash Naidu? But since it’s Kamal Haasan, he never ceases to surprise.

Dhanush –  After acting in scores of films, Dhanush is all set to make his directorial debut with Power Paandi. Raj Kiran plays the lead role in this directorial venture. This has been Dhanush’s dream for the longest time. After his father Kasthuri Raja and brother Selvaraghavan turned directors, it is now Dhanush’s turn to get behind the camera. So will Power Pandi prove Dhanush’s mettle as a director? We can’t wait to find out!

Nayanthara – After playing some of the most glamorous roles in many movies, Nayanthara is all ready to take on a de-glam role in one of her films – Aramm. She will play a district collector who looks into the civic problems of her jurisdiction. Her first look created quite a stir as she was seen in a simple, no-nonsense avatar. It created quite the impression. As of now, fans are excited to catch in a never seen before avatar, now let’s see if this risk she’s taken on after 13 years will pay off for the veteran actress.

Tamannaah – Last year, the big news was Tamannaah had bagged the lead role for Queen’s remake. While we are super thrilled about this upcoming Tamil film, one can’t help but imagine the pressure riding on Tamannah. It’s Queen we are talking about here-  not only one of Kangana’s unforgettable films, but an ever lasting film over all. So there are bound to be comparisons between the two. But here’s the thing, this is not the first time Tamannaah has taken on a hit remake. She had starred in Kanden Kadhalai, the remake of another iconic movie – Jab we Met. Critics specially praises her for her performance. They had gone on to say, that she was the backbone of the film. So will we see a repeat performance?

Nagarjuna – Nagarjuna will soon be seen in a Mythological drama – Om Namo Venkatsaya. The movie is based on Hathiram Baba’s life who happens to be saint from North India settled down in Tirumala. He is a huge devotee of Venkateshwara. Now in 1997, Nagarjuna had played a composer Annamacharya. His look was almost the same. Although that character was a composer and this one is a saint, will Nagarjuna be able to deliver the same shock value that Annamaya the movie created? At that time, Nagarjuna had proved to us, that he can even pull off characters like these apart from romantic candy floss roles, but what’s going to be different this time? Also as we had mentioned to you, the teaser of Om Namo Venkatsaya seemed a little outdated, and not as impressive more so because the mythological genre is surging ahead what with its advanced VFX. However at the end of the day it’s Nagarjuna, so we are looking forward to a memorable performance all the same.

Prabhas – He’s part of one of the most awaited sequels of all times – Baahubali 2. The expectations, fans have with this movie are sky high to say the least. After investing three years in Baahubali, Prabhas has gone on to keep aside another two for the second part. Will it pay off this time as well? While Prabhas has now grown to be a global star, thanks to Baahubali, the very film may just typecast the star. A double edged sword – that’s what’s the Bahaubali series is for Prabhas, more so because the other leads have gone to sign other films apart from this magnum opus.

So who do you think is the biggest risk taker?
