A&E Sets Premiere Date for the Final Season of ‘Bates Motel’

Bates Motel is about to check in for its fifth and final season. A&E has set the premiere date of the Psycho prequel on Monday, February 20 at 10/9c, which is several weeks earlier than the show’s traditional mid-March premiere.

Season 5, which consists of 10 episodes, will focus on the “Mother” in Norman’s head following her [spoiler alter!] death in season 4 and will feature the arrival of Rihanna, who will play Janet Leigh’s doomed character, Marion Crane, from the original Hitchcock film.
“The episodes that [Rihanna’s] in were very much designed to be like a collision between Psycho and Bates Motel, and, really, it’s the first and only time we’ve ever truly stepped into Psycho,” showrunner Kerry Ehrin told Yahoo TV.
According to Ehrin, the final season of Bates Motel is “the funniest” season yet “[with] the most dark comedy.”
“I would say it still somehow manages to be weirdly life affirming,” she said.
