When Kat Graham first started on The Vampire Diaires she was a teenager. The 27-year-old actress was barely into adulthood when the show began eight years ago. Now that The Vampire Diaries is ending, Kat Graham is reflecting on what the show has meant to her personally and how she will feel when it is gone. In a recent interview with the Huffington Post Graham opened up about some of her thoughts on the series’ ending and what it was like to join the show nearly a decade ago.
Though Kat Graham announced her departure from The Vampire Diaries before the show was officially cancelled, she isn’t actually ready to say goodbye. “It hasn’t hit me. That’s honestly the truth,” Kat said of the series wrapping up. “Because sometimes I’m like, ‘Oh, I’m gonna miss it. And I can’t believe it’s over.’ And I’m completely not there … But it hasn’t hit me that eight years of a TV show is coming to an end and that I’m not going back to it … I haven’t known a free February or a free March in 8 years.”
In those eight years, Kat Graham feels she has really grown as a person. “When I started this show, I didn’t really know who I was. I knew who I wanted to be. But I think when you’re a young girl and you’re starting off on a TV show you don’t know anyone,” she explained.
Playing Bonnie and going through her personal journey actually helped Kat on her own journey. “You’re kind of fielding your way through everything. And I would have to say that being able to … grow with the character who came to terms that she was a witch … it’s actually kind of profound,” she added. “If you’re talking about the parallels of life and coming into your power as a young woman. I would have to say this character definitely helped me come into my own.”
Kat doesn’t know how The Vampire Diaries will end just yet but she is already planning for her post-series life. She will be working on her music career and releasing a full second album sometime in 2017. She will also miss her Vampire Diaries co-stars.
“I’m friends with everyone. I don’t have beef with anyone. I hope we can all support each other wherever we end up going,” she said.
So what do you think? Can you believe it has been so long since The Vampire Diaries premiered? Did Bonnie or any of the other characters’ journeys help you in a similar way to Kat while watching? What will you miss most about The Vampire Diaries?
