After just the first three episodes have aired, Freeform has already renewed its new sci-fi drama Beyond for a second season. The network sang the show’s praises when it comes to the ratings at the Television Critics Association Winter press tour, giving the cast the surprise announcement of the renewal.
According to Freeform, Beyond had 14 million viewers in its first week, thanks largely to binge-watching. In a new twist, the entire first season was made available online, giving fans the opportunity to see the entire story unfold instead of waiting week-to-week, though the first season still airs regularly Mondays at 9/8c.
With the impending ends of Pretty Little Liars and Switched at Birth, Beyond represents a part of the future of Freeform, which seems to be heading in more of a sci-fi direction with new dramas like Stitchers and Shadowhunters. Now, whether you’ve already binge-watched the entire first season or are waiting each week for new episodes, you can look forward to more Beyond.
Beyond tells the story of Holden Matthews, who wakes up after a 12-year coma with special abilities he learned while his consciousness traveled to a different realm over that time.
Beyond airs Mondays at 9/8c on Freeform, or you can binge-watch the entire first season On Demand right now.
