First-time parents Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmerkovskiy have shared their first update on their newborn son. Besides a quick tweet giving the name and time of birth of their son, Peta and Maks have been very quiet about their newborn. Now, as part of an exclusive with People.com, Maks and Peta have shared what their first week as parents has been like and how their son, Shai, is doing after coming home from the hospital.
In her first social media post since her son’s birth, Peta writes on her Instagram account, “I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for all the well wishes for our little Shai. I’ve read all the beautiful blessings and he is without a doubt a lucky boy. He is a healthy boy with an incredible appetite for food and love. We can’t wait to share him with you, but for the first most crucial weeks of his life we’re just keeping him for ourselves and soaking up these moments.”
In addition to her post, Peta’s fiance, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, shared a closer look at his son’s nursery and gives a joking reason for why there are no baby photos yet. In a photo that shows a stuffed Dumbo toy watching over the blurry outline of Shai, Maks writes, “To the paps posted outside the house for the last three days: Not gonna happen! We got security ova here.”
Maks also posted a slightly more serious post on his Instagram accompanied by a picture where he appears to be holding his infant son. Maks writes, “It’s been one week plus one day of my fatherhood and I’m the happiest person that’s ever lived. I’m also feeling very protective and now understand what every parent in history have been going through for as long as humans have been giving birth. I don’t let too many people come see my son and I don’t want to put any of him on social media just yet.”
It's been one week plus one day of my fatherhood and I'm the happiest person that's ever lived. I'm also feeling very protective and now understand what every parent in history have been going through for as long as humans have been giving birth. I don't let too many people come see my son and I don't want to put any of him on social media just yet. @petamurgatroyd and I just want to enjoy our little family, together with our loved ones, and take in all the precious moments which we'll never get back. So be sensitive please. Or not. Either way, hope everyone's year is off to an incredible start. Ours sure started with a bang 😊 P.S. Farts, poops and throw-ups are the best!
Some fans might find the lack of pictures a bit disheartening. It is certainly within Maks and Peta’s rights as parents and public figures to keep their baby a little bit sheltered. It should be a comfort, at the very least, to know that everyone is doing well. The professional dancers certainly have quite a year ahead of them, not only caring for their son, but they also plan to get married sometime in 2017.
