Before he became The Bachelor (and starred in two other reality shows) Nick Viall’s big claim to fame (or infamy) was exposing during the season 10 reunion special that he and Bachelorette Andi Dorfman had sex in the Fantasy Suite. Nick asking Andi a very private question in a very public forum was a turn-off for a lot of fans of the reality series. In many ways, Nick has been paying for the question ever since. In a recent interview with People, Nick was asked if he regretted his actions and the answer might surprise you.
The short answer is no. While Nick has been open in the past, mainly on his appearance during Bachelor in Paradise, that he regretted the way he confronted Andi, he doesn’t regret talking about their private moment. In fact, being so open and in his words, “honest,” with Andi affected how he decided to treat the women on The Bachelor season 21.
“When you’re going to consider spending the rest of your life with someone, you need to have some pretty transparent conversations,” Nick explained. “If you’re taking it seriously you have to be willing to have those conversations and be open about it. You can’t have a watered-down version of the real world, especially if you’re considering proposing.”
Nick’s big word is transparency. He says he asked Andi about the time they had sex in the Fantasy Suite because he felt she wasn’t being honest with him on The Bachelorette He doesn’t want to make the same mistake on The Bachelor.
“There are things I like to keep personal but at the same time, I think one theme you’ll see throughout [the show] is that I wanted all the women to feel incredibly comfortable and empowered to ask me whatever they wanted to ask me — knowing that I would give them an honest answer and that it would be a two-way street,” Nick said.
He added, “I wanted every relationship to feel like a mutual relationship and that we were on the same playing field and that we were both just as empowered as the other person. I wanted to have an authentic relationship and that was something that was very important to me throughout the entire season.”
Whether Nick’s approach to transparency and honesty will work on season 21 is anyone’s guess. Nick seems to have a more favorable view of his season of The Bachelor than he does of-of his seasons on The Bachelorette. Nick did admit that he will be watching his season. “I’m definitely going to watch it,” he said. “I watched it even when things weren’t so good. If I can endure Andi’s season and Kaitlyn’s season, I think I can endure this.”
So what do you think? Do you understand Nick’s reasons for confronting Andi? Do you think he will be more open and honest than other Bachelors? Are you looking forward to his season?
