The Walking Dead needs to change things up. So far season 7 is not without its fans but even the most diehard Walking Dead viewers can agree that the first half of the season was not the show’s happiest time. Following Glenn and Abraham’s deaths, AMC’s The Walking Dead has been somber, repetitive and depressing affair. Mostly because the main character, Rick, has done nothing but mope around about Negan. According to a new interview with EW that is all going to change at least that is what Rick’s actor, Andrew Lincoln, is promising for the second half of season 7.
The winter finale of The Walking Dead saw Rick finally decide to fight back against Negan and when the show returns in February 2017 that story will continue. Fans will apparently see a very different Rick Grimes. A different Rick also means a very different show.
“It’s probably the opposite of what you just witnessed,” said Andrew Lincoln explaining how season 7 will change in the new year. “Certainly from Rick’s point of view. You see a man in action again with some of the members of his closest family.”
Rick’s point of view just won’t be a more aggressive one. Lincoln is promising a more positive outlook for The Walking Dead for the rest of season 7. “There’s a lot more levity, if you can believe that, than you’ve ever seen before in Mr. Grimes. There’s sort of a freedom in him, a feeling that comes from losing everything, and also the thrill of the fight. It’s the thrill of the fight again. He’s back in. All I’m saying is that the band is back together,” Lincoln explained.
Andrew Lincoln also wasn’t the biggest fan of the first half of season 7. Can we really blame him? Most of his role was cowering and/or sneering because of Negan. This is another thing that will change for the rest of season 7. “There are several episodes that I loved being involved in and it certainly feels very much more like a show that I knew and recognized in the back eight (of season 7),” he said. “I loved the episodes that I was in.”
There will be many crowd-pleasing moments as well apparently. There is one moment in particularly that will occur in episode 16 that Lincoln is especially excited for fans to experience. “Wait till (episode) 16. I promise you, there is one beat in 16, I dropped my script and started punching the air and did a little jig,” Lincoln teased.
So what do you think? Are you excited by these promised changes to The Walking Dead?
